DEMIAN MAIA BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU
Brazilian Jiu-jitsu is a grappling martial art which is considered to be one of the most effective self-defense systems in the world. It consists of realistic evasion strategies, take-downs, restraint techniques, and escapes. The words “Jiu-Jitsu” translate to “Gentle-Arts" - emphasizing the use of strategy, technique and leverage to overcome an opponent. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is also a great fitness program improving the student’s strength, cardio, flexibility, co-ordination, relaxation and confidence.
ZenQuest is an affiliate under Demian Maia. Professor Maia is considered one of the best Jiu-jitsu practitioners in the world with several championship titles and an incredibly successful use of Jiu-jitsu in Mixed Martial Arts. |

ZenQuest holds classes for both “Gi” and “No-Gi” Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. Classes typically begin with warm up exercises and practicing basic movements. From there students learn throws and take-downs, positioning, restraints, submissions, and escapes. At the end of the class more experienced students perform freestyle drills and grappling.
At more advanced levels, this takes on the characteristics of a chess match with each participant playing several moves ahead of the game. Newer students are introduced to this gradually. ZenQuest also trains individuals who wish to compete in Jiu-jitsu or Mixed Martial Arts competition and private training is also available. For information on students under 13 visit our Youth Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu page.
