Self-Defense Clinics
In addition to our regular "Anzen" classes, we also provide clinics for "Hybrid Self-Defense" or HSD periodically. HSD draws upon a variety of martial arts to provide effective self-defense strategies for common attacks.
HSD consist of techniques and tactics from Kickboxing, Jiu-jitsu, Karate, and Krav Maga. A typical clinic consist of essential striking fundamentals, effective escape strategies, restraint tactics, and important "ground" techniques. These clinics are typically 1.5 to 2 hours long, with a costs of around $30 per person. They are for adults and teens and are ideal for general self-defense, bully defense, and even prevention of sexual assault. This is great preparation for those returning to school, going off to college, or with exposure to a risky environment. We also provide similar age-appropriate clinics for children.
This program is based on Instructors Connie and Mark Flynn's fifty-plus years of combined experience in the martial arts, and their certification in the acclaimed "Girls on Guard" program from the Women's Self-Defense Institute.

Girls On Guard
The "Girls on Guard" strategies are now part of our Hybrid Self-Defense program. These are proven ways for women to maximize their chances of surviving common assaults, including those of a sexual nature. Most unfortunately, studies show that more than one-in-four women will experience unwanted sexual contact in their lives. This number is much higher when you consider other types of crime like robbery, kidnapping, physical assault, or murder. Although these attacks can happen at any stage of life, the most vulnerable time in a woman's life is between her first day of college and the Thanksgiving holiday. The "Girls on Guard" strategies utilize the laws of physics, and a women's natural strengths to overcome bigger and stronger attackers.
